How TERN Recruits Indian Nurses for German Clinics: TERN Talent Match Insights

TERN clients from global healthcare systems sharing positive testimonials about their hiring experience and collaboration with Indian and international candidates

The global demand for skilled nurses is growing, and Germany is actively seeking talent from India to address healthcare staffing shortages. The TERN Talent Match event in India brought together representatives from German clinics, including Juliane Mattern from Klinikum Fulda and Jens Rössner and Jörg Baurmann from St. Vincenz Klinikum Limburg, to meet Indian nursing candidates and explore their training environment. Below, we share their insights on why recruiting Indian nurses for Germany is a game-changer and how TERN’s innovative process makes it seamless.

Why Travel 10,000 Kilometres to Recruit Indian Nurses?

For Juliane Mattern, traveling 10,000 kilometres to India was “100% worth it.” She emphasized the value of in-person interviews over online ones, noting, “To see people acting live, how they behave, gives a completely different overall impression.” Meeting candidates in their home country allows recruiters to understand their cultural context and build stronger connections.

Jens Rössner and Jörg Baurmann agreed, highlighting the importance of cultural immersion. Rössner said, “It is important that you also look behind the scenes, understand the culture, and get to know the candidates better.” Baurmann added that the visit shows appreciation for candidates, reinforcing their commitment to hiring top talent for German clinics.

Why Indian Nurses Excel in German Clinics

Indian nursing candidates impressed the German representatives with their language skills and professional expertise. Below are the key qualities that make them stand out:

  • Exceptional Language Skills: Mattern rated the language proficiency of her five interviewees a “10,” praising their ability to hold engaging conversations, even switching to English when needed. “The language level is really good,” she said.
  • Strong Professional Experience: Candidates brought diverse expertise, with older candidates showcasing extensive experience. “Every candidate has brought professional experience into the conversations,” Mattern noted.
  • Politeness and Willingness to Learn: Rössner and Baurmann highlighted candidates’ politeness and eagerness to embrace new challenges. “A very high qualification and a pleasant, restrained manner,” Baurmann said.

Rössner also noted the rigorous training in India, which is university-based, unlike Germany’s three-year vocational model. “The training content here is very, very good,” he said, making Indian nurses a valuable asset for German healthcare.

Exploring Indian Healthcare: Clinic and TNAI Skills Lab Visits

Visiting a university clinic and the TNAI Skills Labs provided critical insights into Indian nursing training. Mattern was struck by the pediatric ward, where 20 patients and their mothers shared a single room—a contrast to German standards. “These are impressions we simply do not know from nursing in Germany,” she reflected.

The TNAI Skills Labs showcased practical training with models and theoretical coursework. Mattern appreciated the inclusion of midwifery training, which isn’t part of German nursing curricula. Rössner wished for similar facilities in Germany, stating, “The use of the Skills Lab is a very important point in education, which we do not have in Germany in the form and breadth I would like.”

TERN’s Recruitment Process: Transparent and Innovative

TERN’s recruitment process stands out for its transparency and efficiency. Mattern praised the careful candidate selection, saying, “It’s just not a wasted time for us who come here.” She also highlighted TERN’s unique platform, which allows clinics to track candidate progress online—a feature no other agency offers.

Rössner, with years of experience in international recruitment, chose TERN for its “heart and soul, commitment, and knowledge.” Baurmann emphasized the platform’s visual timeline, noting, “We can always see where we are in the process chain at the moment.” This transparency ensures clinics stay informed about document status and recruitment progress.
