Indian Nurse’s Success in Germany: Shambhudev’s TERN Journey in Fulda

Shambhu, a nurse from India, successfully starts his healthcare career in Germany through ethical migration support

Looking for nurse jobs in Germany? For many Indian nurses, the idea of working in a European healthcare system can feel overwhelming. But with the right support, guidance, and preparation, it’s not only possible — it can be life-changing. Just ask Shambhudev.

Originally from Maharashtra, Shambhudev recently relocated to Fulda, Germany through TERN’s international nurse recruitment program. Like many healthcare professionals, his decision to pursue a career abroad came with both excitement and uncertainty.

“Before coming here, I’d heard things — that the food would be a problem, or that it would be difficult to adjust. But once I arrived in Germany, I realised it’s very manageable,” he says.

Today, Shambhudev lives in a one-bedroom flat and works in a modern hospital alongside a multicultural team of professionals from across the world. For the past three months, he’s been adapting to life as an Indian nurse working in Germany, learning both inside and outside the hospital.

“The hospital work here is not that different from India,” he shares. “But the technology is more advanced. I’ve learned about new medications, new diseases — it’s a great environment for growth.”

His workplace is a diverse setting — with staff from Turkey, France, Chile, and beyond — and the culture is welcoming.

“Colleagues are friendly, and patients are curious. Some even ask me about Bollywood and Shah Rukh Khan!” he laughs.

Adjusting to Life in Germany as a Nurse

One of the biggest concerns for many candidates is the transition to daily life in a foreign country. But for Shambhudev, living in Germany as an Indian nurse has been easier than expected.

He uses the DB app for navigating trains, trams, and buses. Public transport in Germany is reliable, 24/7, and makes getting around simple even without a car. Access to healthcare is also straightforward — with every resident registered under a local Hausarzt (general practitioner).

“If you have a fever or something minor, you go to your Hausarzt first,” he explains. “And if it’s urgent, you can go directly to the hospital. Everything is covered through health insurance.”

Why He Chose TERN

For Shambhudev, the move to Germany wasn’t just about career growth — it was about security, learning, and building a future. He credits TERN’s AI-enabled nurse recruitment process for making it smooth and accessible.

“TERN — and especially Sagar — supported me every step of the way. From documentation to interview preparation, they made the process stress-free. Because of them, I’m here in Germany today.”
